Above the Door Chin up Bar

Great product5

This chin-up bar is a very sturdy built bar. The bolts they provide definetly do their job so i suggest using them. Your wall will break before this bar will the way they recommend that you set it up. The only "problem" i have is with the grips which is a standard type grip you'd find on any weightlifting bar. I solved this by just wrapping a towel around the bar whenever i use it or wear gloves but some may like it. I'm a mechanic and my hands get pretty messed up everyday so that's the reason why for me personally it hurts. I weigh around 225 lbs and this bar handles my weight with no problem just as long as you follow the instructions you'll be fine.More detail ...

SPRI Pro Line Pull Up Bar

Good Pull Up Bar5

This is an excellent pull up bar over all. I'm over 200+ lbs and it supports me fine. The foam grips can be rotated and move to the desire hand positions. Telescopic bar allows placement in different sizes door frame. Hanging latches have little swivel locks so the bar cannot be accidentally lifted off the wall latches. The bar is not permanently mounted to the wall and can be remove after each use if one wishes. Each latch comes with a three (3) aluminum screws for mounting on the door frame.

The only drawback is the short aluminum screws provided. Though it has supported my weight so far. I have this bar for about 2 months and I use it every other day.More detail ...

Lifeline Power Up Chin Up Bar - Lifeline Power Up Chin-Up Bar - A16205

This is 2 pieces4

This little device is 2 separate handles that are wedged between the back and front of a closed door. They can be spaced as needed for your comfort.

There is no bar connecting the left and right handles. They are not connected in any way.

The door **must** close and should have a lock on it for safety. If the door opens with any weight on it you'll fall.

There are pads on the grips and between your hands and the door - very nice. After a few reps the straps connecting the front and back pieces have scrapped off a little paint at the top of my door. The other side of the door has similar scraping but since I'm using a closet damage doesn't matter. Wrapping all parts that contact the door may help prevent/reduce damage but I haven't tried that.

Wearing knee pads is probably a good idea until you have lots of control so you don't damage either your knees or the door with every rep.

Overall this is a simple device that does what the picture shows for a small cost. It is sized for travel.More detail ...

Everlast Chin-Up and Sit-Up Bar

Good Doorway Bar4

I read the reviews about this bar falling down and even though I weigh 220 lbs I bought it anyway.

As long as you install the brackets it will hold up anyone.

The main thing I like about this bar is that the brackets will hold the bar for any direction of pulling.

There are only two downsides to this bar. The brackets stick out into the doorway a good 1 1/2 inches on each side. Also only one side of the bar has the foam grip.More detail ...

Perfect Pullup Heavy Duty Performance Series Ab Straps

Not Great.1

My ab straps DID NOT come with the metal carabiners shown in the ad pictures so in order to put the straps on the bar you have to DISCONNECT the whole bar from the brackets each time a big PITA! Evidently the carabiners are a bit expensive so they've deleted them and now show the ab straps in a closeup picture not showing how they attach to the bar. Unfortunately they didn't lower the price though. Also if you are taller than about 5'4" and you mount the PP frame in a standard door frame you'll hang so low using the ab straps that your feet are dragging on the floor even with your knees bent. Interesting idea poorly executed.More detail ...

GoFit Chin-Up Bar

Great chinning bar5

After reading the bad reviews for the everlast chinning bar I settled on this one. I didn't see how this would work with the pics amazon had but it's very sturdy and works great. I've posted some pics of the bar mounted. See "customer images".More detail ...

Maximum Fitness Gear All-In-One Doorway Chin Up Bar with Bonus Top 20 Exercises To Six Pack Abs Guide

Works as advertised.5

I shopped around and I have many years of fitness experience and so I didn't make this choice lightly. Yes it smells of chemicals but it's probably because it was packed before the paint fully cured. The smell goes away by the time you get it together and use it a couple of times. The grips are good but they're a bit soft and made of foam so I don't expect they'll last a long time. The area of the bar that comes into contact with the doorframe is a hard plastic with a textured surface that will leave an impression in the wood plus the natural up-down flex will rub a bit. The flat area on the back is fine and I don't see any noticeable marks on the wall. Yes some of the more gimmicky exercises rank right up there with using it as a grill for a compact pickup. Still there's no simpler way to have pull-up capability at home. Portable? Yes. Does it come apart easily for compact transport? Don't even think about it. The beauty is it goes on quick you work out then put it away. Truly easy effective and versatile since there are more grip locations than the single bar type. I even use the bends where there is no foam and it's no problem. I bought some fitness bands to keep my reps high and I just leave them on it and use them as I desire. Can't test the weight limit though I'm less than a buck 50. The top 20 guide is a leaflet and my "kit" came with no tools. Didn't use the included brackets. The stupidest thing they did with this kit is provide you a "printed on both sides" piece of paper of 20 exercise pictures but NONE of them use the bar. The only exercise pictures using the bar are on the box which I am sure most people will throw away/recycle. Come on guys sheesh. Still a great product.More detail ...

Everlast Multi Function Chinning Bar

Be careful!3

I used this product successfully as a chin-up bar (palms facing me). When I turned my grip away to do pull-ups the bar slipped while I was at the top of my pull. I fell and got a few bumps and bruises. This happened twice (shame on me). I did put some cushioning material on the bar that goes over the frame so as to protect the wall from damage. Be careful how you use it. I have decided not to use mine anymore until I find a way to attach it more securely.More detail ...

P90X Chin-Up Bar

Portable for a standard door.4

I bought this because I lived in an apartment. I did NOT use anything other than the bar to work out with; in other words I did NOT use the extra brackets. It is my opinion that you don't "have" to use them but they are there for safety/legal reasons. If you have controlled and thoughtful motion the way it sits on the door frame and pushes on the sides makes it sturdy enough. However to remove the bar you lift it up (as seen on TV). If you were not paying attention during a workout I can see where the lawyers are afraid you might dislodge it... so therefore the extra security of the brackets. Your choice.

Beware however that the bar fits only standard doors. I've since moved into a townhouse with smaller spaces and if there isn't room ABOVE the door it won't work (the ceiling is flush with the door frame in the areas I have doors). Also your door can't be WIDER than the bar (as in two double doors that open) because it needs the sides of the door frame to push against.

If you have normal sized doors this is the one for you. The brackets? You can probably do without but in case a lawyer is reading this... I'll say that you should use the brackets....More detail ...

Maximum Muscle Trainer Wall-Mounted Pull Up Chin Up Bar

Maximum Muscle Wall-Mounted Pullup Bar4

The bar itself is great. The mounting instructions could use some work though. They assume you're going to use screw anchors to mount it in wallboard and I'm not convinced. Since the mounting holes are not on 16" centers I bolted the pullup bar itself to a 2x10x36" board using 1/4" nuts and bolts and then used 1/4" lag screws to screw the board to 3 studs 3 screws per stud. After all that it's pretty solidly mounted but it took some work.More detail ...

Valeo Chin-Up Bar

Good for the price3

I'll agree with the other reviewers that this thing is sturdy. I weigh 220 and it holds me with ease. I'll also agree that the placing of the hand grips is bad. The bar extends in one direction so you end up with a hand grip that is butted right up against the door frame. Yes you can move the grips. But 1.) it's a pain and 2.) your grip will become uneven because the extension pole is smaller in diameter than the stationary pole.

But for the $$$ it works fine for me. I am planning on putting up a more permanent pullup bar (joist mounted) in my basement so I won't have to deal with the grip thing much longer.More detail ...
